Mary Vietmeier , LPCC

Mary Vietmeier brings a breadth of life experience to her work, combining decades in nursing, mental health counseling, and theological studies into a person-centered, holistic practice. Raised as the oldest of four and following her mother into nursing in 1975, she worked in surgery, labor and delivery, and cancer research until a serious back injury in 1988 prompted a career change. She returned to school and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Capital University in 1993, then completed graduate study at Ohio State University in 2001 and became a licensed clinical professional counselor in Ohio the same year.

In addition to her clinical training, she retired in 2016 and pursued theological study, earning a Master of Divinity in May 2020 and completing a chaplain internship at Providence Medical Center in Anchorage in the summer of 2021, where she supported the emotional and spiritual needs of people facing severe and life-threatening circumstances. Those combined perspectives inform her understanding of how physical health, emotional experience, and spiritual beliefs intersect.

Her approach is person-centered and nonjudgmental, attending to the whole person - physical, mental, and spiritual - and honoring diversity and complexity. She has extensive experience treating depression, anxiety, health crises, relationship concerns, grief, trauma, and issues related to spirituality and life purpose. She typically works with individuals rather than family or couples therapy and does not generally provide services for addictions or ADHD. She prefers video sessions when possible, noting that much communication is nonverbal, and aims to help clients gain clarity, deeper self-understanding, and renewed options for moving forward. Mary draws on an eclectic set of skills developed through professional training and life experience, offering support grounded in resilience and compassion.
