About Neal
His training includes study in the United States, China and India. In 1986 he participated as a member of the first bodywork team invited to a teaching hospital in China to study Tuina, a form of traditional Chinese medicine and massage. In 1991 he traveled to India to study with the meditation teacher H.W.L. Poonja, also known as Papaji. Until recently he taught Reiki for almost 30 years and has provided Reiki therapy for nearly 40 years.
Neal is the author of Pocket Stress Manager & Labyrinth Guide and the creator of the relaxation CD Exit The Storm. His holistic work has appeared on national television including WTTW, Fox, NBC and the Discovery Channel, and in publications such as Better Homes & Gardens, Spa Finder, New Age Magazine and Utne Reader. In 1997 he created the Earth-Wisdom Labyrinth, Illinois’ first permanent outdoor labyrinth in Elgin, and has consulted on numerous other labyrinth projects, including his patented double finger labyrinth design, the Intuipath®. He is a founding member of The International Labyrinth Society and for nearly 40 years led labyrinth workshops nationwide.
In private practice Neal supports people facing a wide range of concerns, from life-affirming medical conditions like diabetes, cancer and heart disease to anxiety, depression, relationship and LGBTQ+ issues. His therapeutic toolkit includes relaxation and meditation training, the Emotional Freedom Technique, graphotherapy and other targeted practices, and his work often explores integrative medical options alongside the psychology and spirituality of illness and recovery. Neal also led a four-year national research study examining the behavioral effects of the Intuipath design on children and adolescents with ADHD, and outside of therapy he has served as a Certified Pickleball Coach for the past 11 years.
Integrative Therapeutic Approaches for Online Care
Neal Harris draws from Attachment-Based Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to guide online work. Attachment-Based Therapy focuses on how early relationship patterns affect current emotional needs and interpersonal habits, helping people improve trust and connection. Client-Centered Therapy emphasizes the therapist's empathic presence and acceptance to support personal growth and strengthen self-understanding. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) offers practical tools to identify and change unhelpful thinking and behavior patterns, which can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress.
Choosing the right approach is a collaborative process. Neal works with each person to explore goals, preferences and life circumstances, and together they adjust methods to fit what feels most helpful and sustainable.
Online sessions can take place by video call, phone, live chat or text-based messaging, offering flexibility for busy schedules, mobility limits or geographic distance. These options make it easier to maintain continuity of care, try different formats to find what works best and fit therapy into everyday life with fewer logistical barriers.
